Enterprises spend big on cloud services in 2020

Synergy Research Group finds that enterprises are continuing to spend heavily on cloud infrastructure. This spending grew by 35% in 2020 to reach almost $130 billion. Meanwhile enterprise spending on data center hardware and software dropped by 6% to under $90 billion.

The managed SD-WAN opportunity comes with challenges

The market for SD-WAN solutions is expected to see a CAGR of 24% between now and 2025, according to the analysts at Dell'Oro Group. Enterprises are looking to SD-WAN to handle increasingly complex workloads, and many are foregoing the DIY approach to SD-WAN in favor of a managed service. According to the analysts at Frost & Sullivan, four out of five enterprises were choosing a managed SD-WAN service over a DIY approach by 2018.

AT&T expands 5G to legacy unlimited plans

Windstream adds 60K new wholesale fiber locations

Windstream’s Wholesale division expanded its fiber footprint to 60,000 new locations in its 18-state footprint. The company said that this is part of its $2 billion, multi-year fiber expansion project. Windstream also said that its fiber network is now open to wholesale partners who can then sell it to their business customers.

Canada’s Rogers snaps up rival Shaw in $16B deal

Intel Report Finds Growing Appetite for Security Transparency

Technology vendors and service providers that proactively root out, mitigate, and disclose cyberthreats are in high demand and short supply, according to a Ponemon Institute survey conducted on behalf of Intel. And even when vulnerabilities are disclosed, respondents cited numerous challenges ranging from limited IT budgets to user error.

T-Mobile Backloads Edge Into 5G Strategy

T-Mobile US is taking a decidedly different tack with mobile edge computing than its domestic competitors. While AT&T and Verizon front loaded edge into their respective 5G network strategies, T-Mobile effectively views it as a latter opportunity that doesn’t merit a big early splash. 

AT&T will expand its fiber footprint to 3M additional locations

AT&T is making a big push to increase its fiber footprint this year. During the company’s annual investor event last week, Jeff McElfresh, CEO of AT&T Communications, said that in 2021 the company will deploy fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) to an additional 3 million location across more than 90 metro areas.  And the company will continue its aggressive fiber push in 2022 when it plans to add to 4 million locations.
