Adaptiv Absorbs LiveQoS to Accelerate SD-WAN

Adaptiv plans to roll LiveQoS’s software into its cloud-native SD-WAN offering to meet the demand for bandwidth- and latency-sensitive applications. “By strengthening our R&D capabilities and technological leadership, we will be able to jumpstart our aggressive growth plan to meet the accelerating opportunities in the global SD-WAN market,” said Bernard Breton, CEO at Adaptiv Networks, in a statement. The acquisition got its start as a potential partnership between the two Ottawa, Canada-based networking companies, wrote Breton in an email to SDxCentral. However, as the desire for a more strategic partnership became clear, the conversation turned to acquisition. As part of the deal, LiveQoS CEO, Salim Nensi will now serve as VP of engineering at Adaptiv and will be responsible for integrating LiveQoS’ key technologies into the combined company’s SD-WAN offering, Breton said. He added that the LiveQoS and Adaptiv teams are already working under one roof. LiveQoS’ portfolio spans the gamut of application acceleration from voice over IP, unified communications, point of service, virtual desktop infrastructure, and file transfer. “LiveQoS has developed a very rich portfolio of technologies, which are enabling the improvement of network and service performance over IP-based networks,” Breton wrote. The company has yet to finalize an integration road map. Breton said Adaptiv is, however, eyeing several key technologies from LiveQoS’ portfolio that could quickly find their way into the company’s SD-WAN offering. These include transmission control protocol and user datagram protocol (TCP/UDP) acceleration, advanced channel conditioning for real-time services, and cloud-native gateways and routing, which Brenton says should make it easier to deploy the company’s SD-WAN outside of North America. Brenton also highlighted the LiveQoS’s engineering team and library of patents that he said will help Adaptiv accelerate the development and delivery of a high-value SD-WAN to customers. “The expertise we are getting from the LiveQoS engineers, along with the patents and technology places us as a technological leader in the SD-WAN space with 20 relevant SD-WAN patents,” he wrote.
