Tis the season for spending, and application performance monitoring (APM) provider Instana this week made money moves to further advance software construction insight with three acquisitions: BeeInstant of Ireland, StackImpact of Germany, and Signify, a technology from Jinspired.
Instana, which has offices in Germany and the United States, did not disclose the prices of the acquisitions. It acquired StackImpact and BeeInstant outright, while it only purchased the software from Jinspired.
The company says the acquisitions advance its vision to develop an observability tool for modern cloud applications. They will accelerate the vendor’s “immediate (next 6 months), medium, and longer term roadmap and overall product vision to take APM further, faster,” Instana CEO and co-founder Mirko Novakovic said in an email to SDxCentral.
Instana’s APM tool was designed specifically for microservices architectures including Kubernetes and container-based applications.
Its tool has three core capabilities. First, by building an internal data model it offers continuous discovery and visualization of the entire technology stack to identify performance issues. Second, the APM tool monitors and visualizes this data in real-time. And lastly, it offers artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, which Abrams said is a necessity due to the complexity of these environments.
Instana reached a deal to buy StackImpact six months ago. It provides code-level insights into CPU usage, memory allocations, thread contention as well as latency bottlenecks of Golang, Node.js, Python and Java applications.
Ireland-based BeeInstant provides developers with a single-pane, customizable view of real-time back end metrics.
And Signify provides insight into complex system signals.
Novakovic said that StackImpact is already being integrated with Instana’s AMP technology, while BeeInstant and Signify will follow in future releases for software-as-a-service and on-premises products. Together, StackImpact, BeeInstant, and Signify offer “best-in-class cloud and DevOps native, microservices and Kubernetes,” application insights, Novakovic said.
