Consolidated Communications workers agree to new contract

Four unions representing more than 1,000 Consolidated Communications employees in New England have agreed to a new four-year contract to replace the previous contract that expired August 7, 2021.  The new contract includes wage parity for rural workers and better protection against subcontracting. In addition, workers will receive a wage increase.   

Florida utility to expand its broadband network

Zayo will deploy 400G network across North America, Europe

Zayo Group is upgrading its transport network and deploying 31 high capacity 400G long-haul routes across North America and Western Europe. The 400G capability will make it possible for Zayo to deliver multi-terabit capacity across its network and provide higher transmission rates, reduced cost per bit and greater bandwidth capacity. The company said it will also result in reduced operational and maintenance costs and a 40% reduction in power consumption.

Managed edge services revenues to top $445.3M this year: IDC

Managed edge services are the next big growth area for public cloud providers, service providers and technology vendors. According to IDC, managed edge services will deliver worldwide revenues of about $445.3 million this year, which is a 43.5% increase over 2020. In addition, the analyst firm forecasts that managed services revenues will hit nearly $2.8 billion in 2025.

Airspan IPO values the company around $700M

Airspan Networks went public on August 13 via a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) called New Beginnings Acquisition (NBA). Airpsan's stock is now trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "MIMO."

TDS vows to deliver 2-Gbps speeds in all its new markets

TDS Telecom said it will launch 2-Gbps symmetrical broadband services in all of its new markets where it is expanding fiber outside its existing wireline footprint. As part of that announcement, the company said it is now offering 2-Gbps services in Spokane, Washington and Meridian, Idaho.

Cable and telcos added 890k net broadband subscribers in 2Q

The U.S. market now has more than 107.4 million broadband subscribers, an increase from 102.7 million subscribers from a year ago. According to Leichtman Research Group, the largest cable and wireline providers in the U.S. acquired about 890,000 net additional broadband internet customers in the second quarter, which is a decrease from the pro forma gain of about 1,260,000 subscribers in the second quarter of 2020.
