Docker containerizes Windows Server 2008; Rumors fly that Thoma Bravo will buy Symantec; CommScope buys Arris.Here are the week’s strays and stragglers we roped for you: Private equity firm Thoma Bravo approached Symantec about acquiring the software company. The deal would be a large one considering the Symantec’s $15 billion market value and debt totaling around $5 billion. ETSI released a Middlebox Security Protocol specification for data center and enterprise network operators to meet security standards. Docker’s Containerd core runtime component was released for beta testing for Google’s Kubernetes Engine (GKE). Docker released a program that will containerize and migrate legacy Windows Server 2008 Applications using Docker Enterprise 2.1. Communication infrastructure provider CommScope will acquire Arris, a telecommunications equipment firm, for $7.4 billion in cash. Turkish operator Turkcell and Samsung demonstrated a live trial of 5G in Turkey leveraging Samsung’s 5G fixed wireless access technology and Turkcell’s infrastructure. Verizon opened a 5G First Responder lab in partnership with Responder Corp. to develop 5G technology for public safety use cases. Sixteen enterprises joined a Red Hat-led industry initiative to combat harsh tactics in open source license enforcement. The Linux Foundation created an open source foundation for the GraphQL project. GraphQL was an API technology developed in-house by Facebook in 2012, and was open sourced in 2015. Dell EMC expanded its integrations with VMware for hybrid cloud and data center operations. Red Hat renewed the security certifications from the National Institute of Standards and Technology for its Enterprise Linux 7.5 platform. Ericsson, Telia, and Einride partnered to work on a 5G-powered autonomous transport ecosystem in Jönköping, Sweden. Fortinet expanded its Technology Alliances ecosystem to include RAD, Indegy, and Security Matters. The three companies join Nozomi Networks in the program. A10 Networks entered into a partnership with NEC Corporation under which A10’s security products will be integrated into NEC’s 5G, pre-5G, and NFV infrastructure systems. Cloudian, an object storage company, joined a Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) focus group for accelerating multi-cloud adoption. Vodafone New Zealand launched an adaptive, agile network based on Ciena technologies to enable support for bandwidth-heavy applications. Canada telecom operator Bell Mobility launched a managed IoT security service of smart city and business IoT use cases. Spirent, China Telecom, and Huawei completed a Flex Ethernet line test. Redis Labs released a stateful and portable container service on Pivotal Container Service (PKS) for enterprises to deploy and build cloud-native applications. Yahoo Japan subsidiary Actapio selected storage software provider Quobyte to provide a storage platform for its private cloud infrastructure. ONF released version 2.1 of its open Transport API with added capabilities that enable the disaggregation of optical transponders and system components. Talend said it will acquire self-service data integration company Stitch. Semiconductor company AMD launched EPYC processor-based instances on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to offer enhanced core density and memory bandwidth. Cloud-native storage company Portworx named partnerships with container company Heptio and container development agency Amazic. The integrations will allow both to run and deploy containers in Portworx’s container-defined storage platform. Rackspace launched its managed service offering of a VMware cloud running on Amazon Web Services (AWS). CenturyLink partnered with data center provider TierPoint to connect its data centers with fiber to CenturyLink’s network. Symantec joined Aryaka’s SD-WAN security ecosystem. Symantec will integrated its threat mitigation and security with Aryaka’s fully-managed SD-WAN service. Security company Fhoosh released Android secure data transmission capabilities for Verizon 4G LTE and 5G networks. It also demonstrated its data protection and secure live streaming from IoT and Microsoft Windows devices at a Verizon and Nokia-led crisis simulation event. ZeroStack added flexible storage controls to prevent over consumption to its Self-Driving Cloud platform. Silver Peak expanded its Partner Edge program with new channel programs and expanded the tools and resources available to its SD-WAN partners. NetScout updated its traffic visibility, data analytics, and threat migration portfolio with visibility and anomaly detection enhancements, as well as improved automation for DDoS protection. Canadian SD-WAN provider Martello Technologies closed a $2.3 million term loan with the Royal Bank of Canada tied to Martello’s purchase of Savision B.V. LogDNA released general availability of its self-hosted, multi-cloud logging platforms. Tenable released predictive prioritization capabilities that combine Tenable vulnerability data, third-party vulnerability and threat data, and an algorithm to address and prevent network vulnerabilities. ADVA subsidiary Oscilloquartz launched a scalable, phase and time synchronization tool for mobile and cable operators preparing for 5G. Security company Lookout added new integration and a zero-trust access model to its post-perimeter security platform. Webroot expanded its partnership with Continuum to integrate its DNS protection platform with Continuum’s security profile and protect service. Autonomous cloud operations provider YotaScale closed a $8 million Series A funding round and released general availability of its cloud operations platform. Wireless networking provider Cambium Networks launched enterprise-grade switches to improve network management and performance. DFLabs released a version of its Security, Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) platform with an open integration framework. Security software provider DH2i launched a network security software platform that creates software-defined perimeters for organizations. Hybrid cloud database company DataStax partnered with VMware to bring big data environments on VMware’s virtual Storage Area Network (vSAN). Security company Uniken completed a $10 million funding round. A Cloud Guru, which provides cloud compute training, and cloud services provider Cloudreach partnered to integrate A Cloud Guru’s training platform with Cloudreach’s cloud education program. Container-native company Drone.io added multi-cloud and multi-architecture capabilities to its continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) platform. Behavioral biometric firm BehavioSec updated its biometrics platform to provide banks, financial technology firms, retailers, and cloud service providers with continuous authentication defenses.
